Top Fitness Expert Leeavs the U.S. for Stem Cell Treatment – Chooses CPI Stem Cells

n this episode of the CPI Stem Cells PodcastCPI Co-Founder Scotty Nelson sits down with fitness and nutrition expert Autumn Calabrese for a real conversation about what it takes to heal at a high level—physically, mentally, and logistically.

Autumn is known for training and fueling people like athletes. But even with elite-level discipline, chronic pain can still creep in—especially when your career demands you perform on camera, lift heavy, and repeat the same movements for years. For Autumn, that reality showed up as persistent shoulder and hip pain that started limiting everything from squats and lunges to day-to-day training.

After hearing about CPI through Joe Rogan, she did her research, made the call, and traveled to CPI for regenerative treatment—an experience she says exceeded expectations from start to finish.

When Pain Starts Limiting Performance

Autumn didn’t come to CPI for “maintenance” or a minor tweak.

She was dealing with:

  • torn labrum in her left shoulder
  • Significant right hip pain (worse than the shoulder at times)
  • Reduced ability to train legs—she couldn’t squat well, couldn’t lunge to depth, and struggled to hold weights without getting “caught” by pain

As someone who films workouts constantly, those limitations weren’t just inconvenient—they directly impacted her ability to do her job.

How Autumn Found CPI (and Why She Chose to Travel)

Autumn discovered Cellular Performance Institute after hearing about CPI on The Joe Rogan Experience. She was already interested in stem cell therapy, but she believed the options available in the U.S. weren’t delivering the quality she was looking for.

She considered other international options—but CPI stood out fast.

After researching, she called and scheduled her appointment within a day or two.

Treatments: Shoulder + Hip Injections, and a Return Visit

On her first trip, Autumn received injections in both problem areas:

  • Shoulder injection
  • Hip injection (where there was likely a micro-tear plus inflammation)

On this second visit, she shared that she didn’t feel like she needed additional joint injections—because everything was feeling good—so she chose to do an IV stem cell treatment (“IV bag”) instead.

She also mentioned a stem cell facial from her prior visit and noticed meaningful improvements in skin texture and discoloration (melasma), while emphasizing how seriously she took aftercare and sun protection.

“I Was Nervous… and Then Everything Ran Like Clockwork”

Autumn came to CPI alone—and she’s honest about what made her anxious at first: crossing the border by herself, not knowing what to expect, and wondering how the process would feel in real life.

What surprised her most was how safe and organized everything felt:

  • Clear communication before she ever arrived
  • Hotel and shuttle coordination handled with precision
  • On-time pickup, roll call, and smooth border crossing
  • A clean, professional, welcoming facility
  • A process that felt systematized, yet still personalized

Her takeaway: CPI ran “like clockwork,” without feeling cold or clinical.

The “Healing Summer Camp” Effect: Community Helps Recovery

One of the standout themes in this episode is something many patients don’t expect: the environment matters.

Scotty describes CPI’s model as “healing summer camp”—a community-based approach originally shaped by CPI’s work with cancer patients. Instead of leaving people isolated in rooms, CPI brings patients together so they can talk, compare experiences, and reduce fear through real peer-to-peer support.

Autumn agreed completely.

She shared that being around returning patients helped calm nerves and set expectations:

  • What does it feel like?
  • How long until you’re back to normal?
  • What surprised you during recovery?

She also made an important point: your mental state affects recovery. Feeling safe, supported, and confident can change how you move through the healing process.

Recovery Still Requires Discipline (and Autumn Took the Time Off)

Autumn emphasized a reality that high performers often struggle with: you have to rest long enough to heal—even when you feel good.

During her recovery:

  • She walked daily (once cleared)
  • Added light Pilates when approved
  • Followed physical therapy and progressed gradually
  • Managed the mental challenge of temporarily backing off training

And the payoff?

She’s now back to heavy weight training—as heavy or heavier than before—and she described her shoulder feeling stronger and more stable than expected, especially given the fear many people have returning after an injury.

Nutrition at CPI: “I Was Blown Away”

Autumn is a nutrition pro and admits she’s picky—especially when the goal is healing. She praised CPI’s food and recovery-focused nutrition approach:

  • Balanced, healthy meals that support inflammation reduction
  • Options tailored to sensitivities (she can’t tolerate eggs and was offered a tofu scramble)
  • A strong emphasis on quality ingredients and avoiding common inflammatory inputs

Her reaction to the tofu scramble says it all: she expected “fine,” and got “best thing ever.”

For many patients, this becomes a major difference between CPI and typical medical experiences—because recovery isn’t treated like an afterthought.

A Big Message for High Performers: Don’t Re-Injure Yourself

Scotty shared something he’s seen repeatedly: inflammation can drop and tissue can begin healing… and people start feeling so good that they push too hard too soon.

That’s when setbacks happen.

Autumn echoed the same mindset from coaching: underpromise, overdeliver, and stay disciplined long enough for the body to truly rebuild.
