Stem Cells For Disc Regeneration
The field of spinal cord injury and back pain has seen a new advancement in treatment. Currently, a number of doctors still rely on surgery and supportive care to treat these ailments. But, thanks to researchers exploring the use of mesenchymal stem cells for repairing damaged tissue, it is changing how disc degeneration and back pain is treated.

What is Degenerative Disc Disease?

A herniated or bulging disc is a condition affecting the spine in which the annulus fibrosus is damaged.This can irritate the spinal cord or nearby nerves, causing extreme pain, weakness and numbness in the arms or legs. A severely herniated disc can sometimes cause paralysis.
How Are The Stem Cells Helping?
The disc itself has very few nerve endings and low blood supply. Without a constant blood supply the disc does not have a way to repair itself.
